I used Painter 11 and a Wacom and began and completed this over the course of the last week , in the middle of the work flow with a sick kid to attend to, so I have no idea how much time was spent, but it was a lot of fun to lay out and execute, and it lifted my son's spirits as a bonus!

I hope to do illustrations for children's books some day soon, and am exploring what that means. I chose "Tender" for the title as the word has two meanings, both of which apply here. Cheers!

This time the hapless Marienburgers are beset by a host of undead ghouls being driven by a seriously evil necromancer. I used some references for period architecture. This is mainly a study in color and composition. Hope you like! (Finally, some of the stuff I have been working on is getting published, so I can share)

I don't have much in my portfolio that fits the needs of the gaming industry, so I spend a little time the week before the con to start rectifying that.

Here is a rather straight-forward flemish-y portrait I made for a tutorial on digital glazing in the second issue of the new Corel Painter magazine (published by Imagine Publishing out of the UK). I started with a typically overexposed fashion close-up for my reference, and went from there. It was the first tutorial I have done, and I must say it hurts my head to try to paint and come up with words at the same time. Good practice though!

This was done as cover art for the upcoming novel "A Murder in Marienburg", written by David Bishop and published by Black Library, the science fiction /fantasy publishing arm of Games Workshop. The book is due out this summer.
The assignment: do an homage to Rembrandt's "Abraham and Isaac" set in the medieval world of Warhammer, with the sublime angel replaced by a murderous giant ninja rat. Could it get any better than that? This image copyright 2007 Games Workshop.

this is my personal favorite of the works i completed last year, in no small part because the idea 'came out whole', which is always refreshing! it was inspired by a walk my wife and i had the previous fall during which we stumbled upon a couple of trees that had fallen together to create a perfect arch. my first thought was "that is just what a magical gateway would look like: completely invisible to the casual passerby, needing only the proximity of a magical creature to activate it."
it was done in painter 8 and completed within a week though i can't recall how many hours it took.
here is a panel from the cover i recently completed of the upcoming title "Guardians of the Forest" written by Graham McNeill and published by Black Library Publications under the Warhammer label(due to be released in september). it is a part of a vertical banner, with a little extra space on top and bottom for a scrolling crop, though i think it holds together pretty well as presented. i especially enjoyed working the dynamic/static angle on this panel. i really relished the opportunity to work a bit outside of my normal range. as to detail and scope, keep in mind that this panel's printed size is no more than 2x4 inches. overall, it was a very fun gig and those folks were terrific to work with.
